Herbal Fistula Treatment

An anal fistula is an inflamed abnormal tunnel between the skin and the anal canal. They typically start in a gland that is deeply embedded in the wall of the anus. Occasionally, fistulas are caused by an anorectal abscess as a result of drainage. The condition is considered acute for up to six weeks, and chronic if symptoms persist longer than six weeks.

A Fistula Diagnosis

Anal fistulas can occur in males and females, but occur more often in men. The symptoms include: tender, firm lumps; anal bleeding; external pain before defecating and after; discharge; skin discoloration; scarring at the fistulous opening and occasionally fever. The doctor can visually see openings that would indicate a fistula or can feel it under the surface of the skin. By using an anoscope, a probe that is inserted into the anus, the doctor can explore the area. Fistulas can also be investigated with a sigmoidoscope, a longer scope designed to analyze whether or not the problem could be Crohn's disease, cancer or another ailment. Some anal fistulas require surgery, but there are herbal treatments that can be helpful aids, if it is determined that surgery is not required.

Doctor's Studies: Herbal Effectiveness for Fistulas

Herbs can be effective in treating the symptoms of anal fistulas. Chinese herbal doctors did a study of 250 patients who were treated with herbal remedies for fistulas. It was discovered that all of the patients were viewed as healing, in complete recovery or asymptomatic. The clinical effectiveness was considered to have a 100 percent success rate.
