Get The Orange Out Of My Hair

Removing brassy orange tones from your hair is not difficult.

Many blondes--natural or box blondes--enjoy having different tones in their hair. Those different tones and highlights will add color, shine and a natural look. However, there is one tone that almost no blonde wants: orange. Known as brassy, orange tones get into the hair if you use well water or your hair has been dyed the wrong shade of blonde. (If you have a warm hair tone, then dye your hair a warm shade of blonde, you would likely experience brassiness). Luckily, there are a few easy fixes to this problem. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Add a water filter to your water tank. Well or hard water contains a high percentage of iron deposits. Water filters will filter out the iron, leaving your blonde hair blonde; otherwise the iron deposits will contribute to turning your beautiful blonde color to an undesirable orange-red.

2. Wash your hair using blue shampoos and conditioners. Many different styling companies offer these special shampoos and conditioners. The blue tint in these products neutralizes the orange and brassy tones of your hair, quickly correcting them. The blue shampoos and conditioners also provide added moisturizers, which help to keep your hair looking healthy.

3. Use a wash-in hair toner. Hair toner is a semi-permanent hair "color" that keeps your shade looking even without the orange. For best results, use a toner that's one shade darker than your hair. Hair toners are useful for keeping your roots blonde in between salon visits. Because hair toner is a semi-permanent dye, it's less harsh on your hair than permanent dyes.
