Hairstyles For The Prom For Black People

An elegant up-do is perfect for prom night.

Prom hairstyles have changed drastically in the new millennium for African-Americans. The average up-do with thousands of pins is far cry from what today's world offers for prom. African-American prom hairstyles are known for fashion flair that makes heads turn on the walkway. Wearing straight to curly hair and up-do's to flowing locks, AfricanA-Americans find it in their best interest to wow crowds on the night of their proms. Does this Spark an idea?

Bouffant

The bouffant was a popular hairstyle in the 1960s and has been re-created in many different ways in the African-American fashion world. This hairdo includes a more intricate structure, along with fringed bangs. A tiara could be added to the top of the bouffant or a fancy jewel to clamp along the side of the bouffant. The texture of African-American hair allows up-do's to stay longer without hairspray or pins. African-American prom students around the world often choose a beehive bouffant over other prom styles.

Down Look

Most African-American prom do's that are worn down are accentuated with extensions. This gives the natural hair a fuller and more sophisticated look. Long locks can be worn down and given several different styles. The wavy down look is commonly chosen by African-Americans. This style can also be worn at a medium length for a more casual look. A part on either side of the head is used to create an interesting angle. This medium wave look will be sure to draw others' attention and obtain the prom look that you're going for.

Up-sweep

A long, soft up-sweep works best for those with naturally curly or wavy hair. If the hair is not naturally curly or wavy, it's always an option to use a wave or curling iron to get the height and look you need for the long, soft do. The crown in this hairstyle is hidden under the soft curls and the curls are then pinned down with crystal hair sticks. To give it that prom flair, most African-Americans add braids to the sides of the head to create a more fashionable look. This prom hairstyle is the best of both worlds, and provides a clean, demure look.
