Create A Secure Internet Connection

Secure Sockets Layer or SSL certification is the process used to create a secure Internet connection. This process will allow you to transmit personal data with less risk via a wired or wireless network router. Data transferred using a secure Internet connection is encrypted, which greatly reduces the risk of others intercepting the information.

Instructions

1. Contact companies who issue security certificates and review their product offering and pricing. A digital certificate issued by the third party for a fee is the preferred method to create a secured connection for both wired and wireless network systems. Different levels of security encryption cost more than others. Purchase the security level based on the data you will be transmitting. Credit card data requires the highest level of security.

2. Install the certificate on your network web server. This is a straight forward process where the file is added to your webstore, located on your Internet server. All certificates are kept in the same folder, regardless to if you are the issuer or holder.

3. Establish the secured connection on your computer via the your wireless network connection by providing the other party with the IP address, port number and your certificate file. Ask them to provide you with exactly the same information.

4. Enter the IP address in your Internet browser for the other company. In the background, the computer is sending out your certificate and confirming that the other party has the other half of the key installed on their network. The software automatically checks with the third party to confirm that the certificate is valid. Once this is done, you will be able to make a secured connection. It should take no more than 3 seconds.

5. Confirm that your wireless router is using the secured channel by looking at the network status screen of your management software.
