The vocalist player in Rock Band uses a microphone to play.
Rock Band on the Xbox 360 uses special peripherals to allow players to simulate playing songs. The vocalist player uses a microphone to read the pitch and rhythm of his voice. This information is used by the game to score the player's singing ability. The Rock Band microphone does not work like most Xbox 360 controllers. A separate controller must be used to get the microphone to work.
Instructions
1. Plug the Rock Band microphone into a USB slot on the Xbox 360 console. The USB slots are located behind the hatch next to the power button on the front of the console.
2. Insert the Rock Band game disc into the console. The game will start.
3. Press the "Xbox" button on the Xbox 360 controller. This will cause the controller to turn on and connect to the system. This will be the vocalist's controller, not the microphone itself.
4. Press "A" on the controller to select a game mode. Press "A" on the band member join screen if another player is controlling the game menus with the guitar or drum controller. Either of these will cause the vocalist part to become active.
5. Wait for the song to start. The game automatically activates the microphone once a song starts with a vocalist player active.
