It also makes a perfect gift for family or friends. Five colorful panels complete this cozy afghan, and it only requires they be sewn together with coordinating yarn.

Instructions

1. Choose your yarn colors. You need 2 skeins of colors A, and B and 1 skein of C, D, E, F, and G. The yarn weight for each skein should be 6 ounces and approximately 185 yards.

2. To begin panel 1, chain 22 with color A. Row 1: Half double crochet in third chain from hook and in 19 chains across. Chain 2 and turn. Rows 2-14: [Half double crochet in each stitch across.] Change to color B in the last stitch of Row 14. Rows 15-28: With B, repeat brackets. Change to color C in last stitch of Row 28. Rows 29-42: With C, repeat brackets. Change to color D in last stitch of Row 42. Rows 43-56: With D, repeat brackets. Change to color E in last stitch of Row 56. Rows 57-70: With E, repeat brackets. Change to color F in last stitch of Row 70. Rows 71-84: With F, repeat brackets. Change to color G in last stitch of Row 84. Rows 85-98: With G, repeat brackets. Fasten off.

3. Create panels 2 and 3 by making two panels the same as panel 1, ending with row 56.

4. Create panels 4 and 5 by making two panels the same as panel 1, ending with row 28.

5. Turn panel 1 on an angle so the squares are diamond shaped. Arrange panels 2 and 3 on each side of panel 1 so color A on panels 2 and 3 line up with color B on panel 1. Place panels 4 and 5 alongside panels 2 and 3 with color A lined up with color B on panels 2 and 3.

6. Connect the panels by sewing the long edges of each panel together with a large-eye blunt needle. Tie and weave in the ends of the yarn. Continue sewing the edges together until all the panels are connected.
