Homemade Herbal Heat Wrap

Herbal heat wraps can aid in detoxification, greater health, improved circulation, weight loss and stress management. Homemade herbal heat wraps comprise a mixture of herbs and kitchen pantry products combined and heated. The herbal mixture is applied to the skin and the body is wrapped with sheets.

Choosing Herbs

Each herb contains its own set of properties. Some herbs contain detoxifying properties, while others are nourishing to your skin. Clary sage, burdock root, dandelion root, rose hips and chamomile are a few herbs that are commonly used in herbal body wraps. Seaweed and salts can also be combined with herbs. Preparing the Body

Exfoliating or showering before applying a body wrap can help open the pores to aid in the detoxification process. It is best to avoid caffeine, sugar and fatty foods before using a herbal heat wrap. Drinking a couple of glasses of water before and after the herbal heat wrap can help the body to flush the toxins released during the detoxification process. Test herbal combination for allergic reaction on a small area of your skin before applying full body wrap

Preparing the Herbal Heatwrap

To create a spa-like atmosphere at home, light candles and play soothing, relaxing music. Make sure the place you have chosen to lie is secluded and you will not be interrupted by family members or pets. Lay towels out on the flat surface you will be lying on (the floor, deck chairs or yoga mats are all good choices). Boil eight cups of water and remove from heat, add herbs. Allow the herbs to sit in the mixture as it cools for 20 minutes. Dip the sheets into the herbal mixture and tightly wrap the body with each sheet. A compression wrap should feel snug, but never uncomfortably tight. Lie down for up to 1 hour before removing the sheets. Remove the sheets immediately if you feel any burning or pain on the skin. After removing the sheets, soak in a lukewarm bath and drink at a couple of glasses of water.
