Electric Drum Kits Compatible With Rock Band Video Games

What is there to say about Rock Band that hasn't already been said by every video game critic in the world? With the endless selection of games compatible with Rock Band instruments, it's nice to see new instruments compatible with the Rock Band game, including new drum choices.

Rock Band Kit

The most obvious chose are the Rock Band drum kits-- one is wired and one is wireless. The wireless drum kit came out with the premiere of Rock Band 2, and the company has since offered expansion packs with additional cymbal add-ons, which are now made by another company, Mad Catz.

Guitar Hero Kit

Though Guitar Hero is made by a different company, and the drum kit is configured differently, it is also compatible with Rock Band video games. This was a smart move by the Guitar Hero franchise, rather than making their instruments only work with their own games. Guitar Hero, which already came with cymbals, released a double bass pedal add on, and there's talk of a new drum set controller to be released with Guitar Hero 5.

Ion Drum Kit

Released by Alesis, a company that makes real electronic drum sets, the Ion Drum Rocker controller is designed to work with both Rock Band and Guitar Hero games. The ion drum set is designed to give you a more realistic, and customizable, drumming experience. Besides being able to move and adjust the pads positioning, they are made out of aluminum to simulate a professional electronic drum set. Though the price tag of the Ion drum kit is more expensive than both the Rock Band and Guitar Hero sets, it does come with three cymbals included and is supposed to make your game play more efficient.

Mad Catz Portable

Mad Catz makes a portable drum kit compatible with all Rock Band games. The drum kit works on virtually any surface and the rubber drum heads should last over a million hits. This is a great option if you would like to disassemble your kit, and since it's compact, it easily stores away when not in use.

Midi Out

It is also possible to connect another third party midi controller to your system to work as a drum kit. Theoretically, this would make it possible to hook anything from an electric drum set to a computer or digital music keyboard in and have it substitute for the Rock Band drum set.
