Diy Resistance Bands

Resistance bands can be made at home using some surgical tubing and carabiners.

Resistance band exercises are an effective way to simulate weight training without using any of the bulky or expensive equipment found in most gyms. With a little surgical tubing and some common household items, it's possible to make your own resistance bands that can be used in strength, toning and muscle endurance exercises.

Instructions

1. Visit your local medical supply store and purchase surgical tubing. Alternatively, if you know someone who works at a hospital, you can ask if the facility has any extra surgical tubing that you can have.

2. Cut the surgical tubing into a number of different strands ranging from roughly three to five feet long. The different lengths will provide different levels of resistance for your workout. The shorter you cut the surgical tubing, the more resistance it will provide.

3. Make basic handles by tying the ends of each piece of surgical tubing to an object or material that fits comfortably in your hand. Cloth strips, other plastic tubing or carabiners are all suitable materials for making handles.
