Child Language Disorders Research Grants

Children with language disorders benefit from research and the grants that fund them.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communicative Disorders , it is estimated that more than 46 million US citizens are afflicted with a communication disorder. Children in particular have language disorders which, if diagnosed and addressed early, can be handled in a ways that offer more possibilities for success. Prevention is also a key component, and research can go a long way in addressing this far reaching problem.

National Institutes of Health, Office of Extramural Research

The main mission of the institute is improving the lives of people who have communication disorders. Research is extremely important in understanding causation, in early diagnosis, and addressing treatment. As an example, in 2009 research uncovered a gene which is associated with a specific language impairment disorder which presents in a delay of speech in young children, affecting them throughout their school years.
