Foods To Avoid When Suffering From Gallbladder Disease

While there are a many different types of gallbladder disease, the common factor between them is pain: pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen or under the right arm and at times nausea and vomiting, usually after eating a fatty meal. One way to control the discomfort from gallbladder disease is to avoid certain foods that contribute to gallbladder discomfort.

Meats and Dairy

Red meat, fowl and pork are all off-limits on a gallbladder-friendly eating plan. Ice cream, cheese, milk and eggs (shown to be present gallbladder symptoms in 95 percent of patients) should also be avoided. Look for non-dairy substitutes such as soy products and rice milk.

Beverages To Avoid

Coffee (regular and decaf), black tea, carbonated water, alcoholic beverages and soda can all irritate the gallbladder.

Trans Fats and Fried Foods

Trans fats, or hydrogenated oils, are saturated fats used to increase the shelf life of processed foods. Most processed foods have trans fats (look on the label). Opt for fresh, whole foods or foods without trans fats, instead. Fried, fatty foods can bring on an attack with a vengeance. Broil or grill your food for a healthier option.

Certain Fruits and Vegetables

Not all fruits are treated equal when it comes to Gallbladder disease. Certain fruits to avoid include oranges, grapefruit, onions, cabbage, turnips and cauliflower.

The sweet Stuff

Chocolate, sugars, fruit juices, artificial sweeteners and chocolate are all to be avoided for gallbladder health.

Beans

Beans are good for the heart but not for the gallbladder, as they increase cholesterol deposits in the Gallbladder, resulting in painful attacks.
