Grants For Infants Who Have To Have Surgery

Grants help some families pay for surgery for infants in need.

When infants need surgery, expenses for their families can quickly pile up. Of course there are the medical bills, and even if infants have health insurance, families may have to pay numerous co-pays or pay for some medical treatments not covered under their insurance plans. Parents may have to take significant amounts of time off work to stay with their sick babies, so they may get behind on their rent or mortgages, utility bills and other expenses. Grants help some families pay their bills so they can focus on caring for their children, not the state of their checkbooks.

United Healthcare Children's Foundation

The United Healthcare Children's Foundation provides grants to families of infants and children that have serious medical conditions. These grants help pay for things not covered by commercial health insurance policies. Families of infants who have to have surgery can apply for grants to help cover things like insurance co-pays, physical therapy and special equipment needed by infants after surgery. The foundation awards grants of up to $5,000, based on the needs of the applicants. Apply online (see Resources).

Kelly Ann Dolan Memorial Fund

The Kelly Ann Dolan Memorial Fund provides grants to families of infants and children with serious medical conditions, including those in need of surgery. Infants must live in Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania in order to qualify. Families can use grants to pay for things like insurance co-pays, special foods or formulas, transportation costs and living expenses. Health care professionals must make a referral for the fund to consider infants for grants.

Children's Cancer Fund of America

The Children's Cancer Fund of America provides grants to families of infants and children who have cancer, including those that need to have surgery to treat a cancerous condition. Call 888-418-6062 to request an application. The fund provides money directly to families in need. Your child's physician will need to complete and sign a form verifying the diagnosis of cancer.

National Children's Cancer Society

The National Children's Cancer Society provides grants to families of infants and children with cancer, including those who need surgery to remove a malignant tumor or otherwise treat a cancerous condition. Families of infants who need surgery can use grants to pay for medical expenses their health insurance policies do not cover, transportation to and from treatment, meals during treatment and lodging during treatment. You can download an application online.
