Different Styles Of Male Wedding Bands

Pick a ring that you'll want to wear for the rest of your life.

Many men who are unfamiliar with selecting and wearing jewelry are unsure where to begin the process of choosing their wedding band. More than ever before, a wide variety of wedding band styles are available to men. With so many choices of different metals and designs, it's possible to find a ring that is just right for you. Does this Spark an idea?

Gold and Silver

Traditionally, men selected gold as the metal of choice for their wedding band, and many men still do so today. Gold rings are available in several different carats, such as nine, 14 and 18, with 18 being the highest quality and most expensive of the three. If you want a gold ring, but don't like the yellowish color they are generally known for, try a white gold ring, which is much lighter and resembles silver. Real silver rings are much less expensive than gold ones, but they are more prone to bending and scratching. Therefore, they are not ideal for everyday use as a wedding band.

Platinum and Titanium

Platinum rings are very bright and shiny, and rings made from this metal will feel heavier than most others. Although platinum rings are tougher and more scratch-resistant, they are about twice as expensive as a gold ring. Titanium rings are a good choice for those who work with their hands. This metal is very hard and will resist scratches, and is lightweight, as well. Rings made from titanium are usually not able to be resized because of their strength. For those with skin sensitivities, titanium is a good choice because it is 100 percent hypoallergenic.

Tungsten

Many men choose wedding bands made from tungsten carbide because of the weighty, solid feel and the shiny, gray color. These rings are not as expensive as platinum, but they are still very hard and scratch-resistant. Tungsten rings don't need to be polished because they are created with a permanent coat of polish on the metal. Like most rings made from strong metal, tungsten rings cannot be resized, so it is important to select the right size before purchasing one.

Hematite and Stainless Steel

Rings made out of hematite and stainless steel are generally less expensive than other rings. Men might enjoy the dark gray color of hematite rings, but there are a few disadvantages of wearing one. Some men develop a skin rash or reaction if they are allergic to the metal. Additionally, the ring can break if it is handled too roughly or struck against a hard surface. Stainless steel rings will scratch easily, but they are inexpensive, so this might not be such a concern. Because of their price, stainless steel rings are a good choice for men who might damage or lose their ring.

Gemstones and Patterns

Some men opt for a more detailed, intricate look for their ring, rather than a simple metal band. Such rings can include gemstones, either diamonds or other colored jewels. Men might want such a ring if they have a strong color preference, although it is possible for gemstones to fall out of rings and need to be replaced. Many rings are also available that feature patterned or woven designs. These rings are usually more expensive than plain ones.
