Different Types Of Hardieplank Siding

HardiePlank is a brand of siding put out by the James Hardie Industries NV, which started in 2001. HardiePlank is lap siding, which features long wide boards that usually have a beveled look, and these boards are designed to overlap one another. This siding is climate specific, which means that you must buy boards that are designed for your climate. HardiePlank siding comes with a 30-year transferable limited warranty. Does this Spark an idea?

Colonial

The Custom Colonial style comes in two styles: smooth or rough-sawn. The smooth Colonial style features boards without a visible grain while the rough-sawn looks like real boards with faux grains designed to look like wood grain. Both styles of Custom Colonial come in 12-foot plank lengths, and the boards weigh 2.3 lbs. per square foot (lbs/sq. ft.). The average thickness of the boards is 5/16 inch, and they are generally 8 inches wide with 6.75 inches exposed. These boards feature the ColorPlus Technology, which adds multiple coats of paint to the board to withstand your particular climate, and it helps the board retain the original finish after years of exposure. You can choose your lap siding color, and colors range from blue to gray to red to green.

Smooth

The HardiePlank Smooth style features plain, no-grain boards, and these boards usually weigh 2.3 lbs/sq. ft. It is sold in 12-foot planks, but the widths vary from 5.25 to 8.25 inches. The Beaded Smooth style also falls under this type, and it looks the same as the smooth except that it has a small lip that runs along the base of the board. You can also customize the exposure of the boards depending on the width. For example, the 5.25-wide boards show 4 inches while the 8.25-inch wide boards show 7 inches. You can only purchase the Beaded Smooth in 8.25 inch widths. You can also purchase the ColorPlus Technology for this style and choose from multiple colors.

Cedarmill

The Cedarmill type comes in either Select or Beaded, and the company designs the planks to look like real cedar. The Cedarmill is 5/16-inch thick, and it is sold in 12-foot planks, weighing 2.3 lbs/sq. ft. The Select is available in widths ranging from 5.25 inches to 8.25 inches with exposure ranging from 4 to 7 inches. The Beaded Cedarmill is only available in 8.25 inch widths with 7-inch exposure. The ColorPlus Technology is available for this type.
