Change Nat Settings On Netgear

You can configure the type of NAT implemented by your Netgear router.

Network address translation is a technique to allow multiple computers in the same local area network to communicate to the outside world by using a single Internet Protocol address. Typically, the network router also serves as NAT controller. Many routers, especially for home use, also have built-in firewalling capabilities. You can change the level of NAT packet filtering performed by the firewall built into your Netgear router.

Instructions

1. Use the Ethernet cable to connect your computer to any LAN port on the back of the Netgear router.

2. Launch a Web browser on the computer, then navigate to the router's management utility. The utility's Web address depends on the router model; you can find the address in the manual. For example, for a Netgear WPN824 the address is "192.168.1.1".

3. Bring up the configuration menu for the back-end connection that connects the router to other computer networks. For example, on a WPN824, click on "WAN Setup." Select "Open" in the "NAT Filtering" section to choose the more lax filtering rules or "Secured" for more stringent filtering. Click on "Apply."
