Command The Yamaha Motif

The Yamaha Motif XS Series production stations are powerful studio tools.


The Yamaha Motif XS Series of music production stations feature built-in rhythm and synthesizer libraries, and include tools for user synth and sample creation. In addition, Yamaha Motif production stations synchronize with Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) compatible software synths and digital audio workstations (DAW) via MIDI and USB port. The Motif XS6, XF6, XS7, XF7, XS8 and XF8 are available online for $1,899.99 to $3,499.99 at the time of publication.


Instructions


Selecting a Voice


1. Press the "Voice" button to display the "Voice" parameters in the LCD display.


2. Press the "Pre 1" through "GM" bank buttons to navigate the LCD menu.


3. Select a "Normal Voice Group" using buttons "A" through "H."


4. Select a "Normal Voice Number" using buttons "1" through "16."


5. Use the octave "Down" and "Up" buttons to adjust the octave of the keyboard.


Volume, Pitch and Modulation Faders


6. Slide the "Master Volume" fader to adjust the volume output level.


7. Slide the "Pitch" fader up or down to increase or decrease the original pitch of sounds produced by the Motif synthesizer. Return the fader to the center position to generate the original pitch.


8. Slide the "Modulation" fader up or down to increase or decrease the amount of the effect mapped to the modulation fader.


9. Adjust the "CS1" through "CS4" control sliders to increase or decrease the volume of voice elements specific to each voice setting.


USB MIDI Connectivity


10. Connect a USB cable to the "USB" slot on the Yamaha Motif rear panel.


11. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a computer's sound card.


12. Open MIDI compatible software on the computer.


13. Open the MIDI sync menu and select "Yamaha Motif" as the input and output channel.


14. Play the keyboard to control MIDI software synthesizers.
