Landing a job in television production can be competitive. Television jobs are perceived as glamorous and high-paying. The truth is that breaking into television requires starting at the bottom, working your way up and earning low wages. It is not necessary to move to Los Angeles or New York to get started. Work into a TV studio floor manager position by putting forth some effort and showing a willingness to learn.

1. Target local news and cable television stations for TV jobs in your area. The Internet is the best resource to locate open positions quickly.
2. Search for job postings on local station websites. Use the online yellow pages to find station contact information for small stations that don't have a website. Local stations sometimes post available jobs in the local newspaper classified ads.
3. Focus on finding an entry-level television production job. A production assistant position is a good way to get your foot in the door. It is a gopher position that is low-paying, but can help you learn the studio skills you need to prepare for a TV floor manager position.
4. Use your entry-level position to gain as much hands-on experience as possible. Get experience in preparing the studio set for a shoot, microphone testing and set-up, camera set-up, making sure props are in order and assisting show hosts or guests.
5. Volunteer to do other jobs in the studio such as: teleprompter, audio, camera and videotape operation. Learn as many production duties as possible.
6. Develop your career by networking with others in the television production business. The more people you know, the more you can learn about opportunities that become available.
7. Apply for a studio manager position when one becomes available. If you have taken the initiative to learn about television production, you have a good chance at getting a TV studio floor manager job.
