Cope With A Broken Jaw

Cope With a Broken Jaw

Perhaps one of the hardest broken bones to cope with is the jaw. Although getting around with a broken leg can be challenging, living with your mouth wired together can be even more so. Fortunately there are some things that you can do that will make it easier to cope during the recovery period.

Instructions

1. Buy a good blender if you don't already have one. You will need to drink all of your nourishment while your jaw is wired closed. The better your blender, the more varied your diet will be able to be.

2. Add variety to your diet. While it might be kind of fun to live on chocolate milkshakes for a couple of days, not only are they not providing enough nutrition but you will get sick of them quickly. Experiment with other things that can be blended. Try blending soup, canned vegetables or mashed potatoes with extra milk and then warm them before drinking. Keeping your meals from getting too repetitive will make it easier to cope.

3. Take a liquid multi vitamin every day. Chances are good that now matter how hard you try, your diet will be lacking a lot of the vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy. Supplement by taking a liquid vitamin.

4. Drink gently when using a straw; do not try to suck anything through the straw that is too thick. You can also sip off of a spoon or use a turkey baster to eat.

5. Keep things that you use at waist height or higher to avoid having to do a lot of bending down. Bending down can cause nose bleeds.

6. Try not to sneeze if avoidable. Sneezing when you have a broken jaw can be very painful.

7. Use cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol to clean your nose. No nose blowing while your jaw is wired.
