Crochet A Choker

Crocheted chokers are inexpensive to make.

A choker adds some hippy chic to any outfit and, providing you have basic knowledge of chain, single crochet and double crochet stitches, you can crochet one quickly, easily and inexpensively. You will work in rows and, depending how proficient you are, you can have a choker within an hour. This pattern would be ideal for young girls wanting to learn to crochet and would make a great sleepover project, with each girl choosing her favorite colors for the cotton and ribbon.

Instructions

1. Measure, in inches, the neck of the person who will wear the choker. Multiply the number of inches by four, since there are basically four stitches to one inch. The resulting number is the number of chains you will make initially to start the the choker. For example, someone with a 14-inch neck will chain 56..

2. Join your crochet cotton to the hook with a slip knot.

3. Work the number of chains you have calculated.

4. Work one single crochet in the second chain from the hook and each remaining chain. You have completed row one.

5. Chain three and turn to start row two.

6. Work one double crochet in the single crochet nearest the hook.

7. Skip the next stitch, chain one and work one double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern until you get to the last two stitches. Skip the next stitch and work two double crochet in the last stitch. You have completed row two.

8. Chain one and turn to start row three.

9. Work one single crochet in the nearest double crochet to the hook. Work one single crochet in each double crochet and in each chain space across the row. You have finished row three.

10. Cut your crochet cotton and pull it through the remaining stitch on your hook to fasten off. Trim off excess crochet cotton.

11. Weave the ribbon in and out of the holes in your choker. Leave sufficient ribbon at each end to tie a bow and trim off the excess.
