A group coordinator, also referred to as a group reservations coordinator, coordinates guest accommodations at a hotel or convention center for groups needing a large number of sleeping rooms.


Education


A high school diploma or GED is preferred for these occupations.


Qualifications


Qualifications include excellent computer and typing skills, good customer service skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities. Employers often provide on-the-job training for this occupation.


Responsibilities


Coordinating guest accommodations includes speaking with customers to schedule reservations, understanding the needs of guests and preparing the appropriate contract and billing information for the group reservation. These professionals work with guests until the time they arrive to ensure quality services are provided.


Job Outlook


The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that group coordinators and related occupations will experience little or no job growth between 2008 and 2018, due to the increasing use of Internet travel and accommodations scheduling.
