Crochet A Snuggle Blanket With Sleeves

Crochet a warm snuggle blanket for chilly evenings.

Snuggle blankets are very popular in northern climates for people who wish to read or watch television in chilly rooms. These covers are blankets with sleeves, allowing the user to stay covered up while still being able to use her arms. Experienced crocheters can easily create a snuggle blanket using only chain stitch and double crochet. While a snuggle blanket is a large project, it can be finished relatively quickly, as the work itself is very simple.

Instructions

1. Make a loop in the end of the yarn and chain stitch until your chain measures 60 inches. Turn and double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook.

2. Double crochet in every chain until you reach the end of the row. Chain three and turn. Skip the first stitch and double crochet in every stitch after that until you reach the end of the row. Chain three and then turn.

3. Make rows of double crochet until your piece measures 12 inches. Turn and double crochet the next row for 9 inches. Keep the yarn on the hook and chain stitch for 12 inches, counting the chains. Skip the same number of stitches as you have chains, then double crochet normally in the piece for 18 inches. Chain for another 12 inches, skip the same number of stitches in the work below and then double crochet to the end of the row. You will now have a piece with two openings in which you will place the sleeves.

4. Chain three and turn. Double crochet in the second chain from the hook. Double crochet in every stitch and chain below until the end of the row. Chain three and turn. Continue making double crochet rows until your piece measures 60 inches. Tie off the yarn end and clip it free.

5. Make a loop in the end of the yarn and chain stitch until your chain measures 24 inches. Turn and double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook. Continue double crocheting until the end of the row. Continue making double crochet rows until your piece measures 24 inches. Fasten off the yarn and clip it free. Create another square identical to the first one.

6. Fold one of the smaller squares in half with the rows horizontal. Sew the two ends together, creating a crocheted tube. Sew the other smaller square together into a tube in the same way.

7. Place one opening of the tube into one opening in the main piece. Sew around the opening, stitching the tube onto the open hole. This will create a sleeve in the blanket. Sew the other tube onto the other hole to attach the other sleeve.
