Children'S Bible Stories Crafts

If you take your children to church and celebrate Christian holidays, they probably are familiar with some of the stories in the Bible. Children's Bible story crafts will further their education while they have fun. With just a few supplies, you’ll be able to combine creativity with lessons from the Bible.

Whale Purse

The Bible’s Book of Jonah features an allegory in which a whale swallows a fisherman named Jonah. Help children make a small whale purse to remind them that God values all creatures. Supply each child with two pieces of colored felt, a safety needle, scissors and thread. Have kids cut both pieces of felt into the shape of a whale, then sew them together with an in-and-out stitch, leaving the top open so they can store goodies in the purse. Use extra felt to add details such as the whale’s eyes, the child's name or a special Bible quotation. Sew on yarn, cord or ribbon so kids can wear the purses on their shoulders. Boys may prefer a purse without a strap to hold change, a cell phone or small cars.

Making Memories

Combine a King James Bible lesson about the story of Noah's Ark with a brain game craft. Many children are familiar with the story of Noah rescuing pairs of animals and riding through a great flood. Ask children to draw pairs of their favorite animals using markers or crayons. (If children have a hard time drawing more than one, photocopy their pictures to get the pairs.) After each child has drawn five pairs of animals, cut out the pictures. Mix them up and tape them face down to a piece of foam core or poster board. Tape the top of the picture only, so it may be lifted up like a flap to reveal what is underneath. To play, pick two flaps to lift up, then lay them back down until you find two of the same image. Once kids have mastered their own game, they can switch with each other for more challenges.

Bible Journal

Help kids channel their thoughts about the Bible and reflect on the day's messages when they return home from Sunday school or another church activity with a simple children’s Bible story journal. Use a color copier to photocopy child-friendly images from an illustrated Bible. Have each child bring an unused school notebook, and let them decorate the fronts of their notebooks by cutting and shaping the pictures from the Bible and gluing them down, layering them like a scrapbook or collage. Supply glitter, stickers, markers and felt if they want to personalize their Bible journals even more.
