All United States nurses must pass the NCLEX licensing examination.
Before becoming licensed to practice, nurses must pass the National Council Licensure Examination. The NCLEX is designed to assess the knowledge, critical thinking abilities and skills that are necessary for safe nursing practices. As of September 2010, the fee for taking the NCLEX is $200; however, there are two circumstances in which you may be able to avoid paying the exam fee or be reimbursed. If you are a veteran of the United States Armed Forces then you may be eligible for reimbursement of the NCLEX fee through your regional Department of Veterans Affairs. You may also avoid paying the fee yourself if you qualify for a workforce exception through your employer or nursing school.
