How Speed Up A Dialup Internet Connection

Dialup modems are not as fast as broadband modems, but many things can be done to improve the speed of a dialup internet connection.

While broadband connections are becoming more common in more areas, there are still many reasons people might have a dialup Internet connection. Broadband is more expensive than dialup and is not available in rural areas. However, dialup speed can be frustrating for users when they are looking at websites with many videos, images or sounds. Fortunately, there are a number of methods you can use to speed up a dialup Internet connection.

Instructions

Speed up a Dialup Internet Connection

1. Upgrade your computer hardware. An older modem may be slower than currently available models. Ensure you have a 56 kbit/s modem that conforms to the V.92 standard. Check all of your other computer hardware as well, as a lack of memory or hard disk space can also contribute to a slow diaulup Internet connection.

2. Ensure that your computer has no spyware or viruses using its resources. Many types of malicious software will send and receive data over your internet connection. Find software available online which can be used to remove any viruses or spyware currently on your computer. Most of these programs will also help to prevent any more malicious software from being installed.

3. Install a web accelerator. According to PC World, these programs supplement your browser's existing cache with their own souped-up version. This will not change the actual data rate of your connection, but will decrease the amount of time it takes you to load websites.

4. Clear out your browser's temporary Internet files, history and cookies. If these are not cleared on a regular basis, it can slow down your dialup Internet connection.
