Some of the dangers include heart attack, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, fertility problems, high cholesterol, cirrhosis of the liver, sleep apnea and a higher risk of some forms of cancer. Getting your weight under control through diet and exercise will help minimize the risk of these serious health issues. Weight-loss camps are designed to help campers learn about proper diet and exercise in a supportive environment so that no one has to go it alone. The Pennsylvania area has three major weight-loss camps that cater to children and teens.
Wellspring Pennsylvania
Located in Western Pennsylvania, Wellspring is the only scientifically based weight loss camp in the Northeast U.S. Co-ed camping is part of the experience. and Wellspring Pennsylvania welcomes boys and girls ages 11 to 18 for a summer of weight loss and healthy activities. Because individual attention is paramount at Wellspring, the camp sets a limit of 50 campers per session. Sessions are four, six or eight weeks, based on the needs and choice of each individual camper. In addition to fun exercise activities, the camp provides culinary classes that teach the campers make a total lifestyle change and keep it going when they leave Wellspring.

New Image Camps
New Image Camps focuses on teaching campers the value of exercise and of diet and nutrition, all within a traditional camp structure. New Image welcomes kids aged seven to 19 and features a private lakefront location in two separate camps for boys and girls. With a 4:1 counselor-to-camper ratio, the specialized attention campers get helps them to build self-esteem and lose weight. New Image Camps are accredited by the American Camping Association and are located in the Poconos.

Camp Pennbrook
Building their camp as a sisterhood, Camp Pennbrook is the only all-girls weight loss camp in the United States. All of the camps counselors are female.
