If shopping for a new car or if you just love to look at the latest models, visit a car show. Car shows are held in each of the Great Lakes states at some point during the year. These shows occur in larger cities in each of these states so you may have to drive far to reach them.
Illinois
The biggest car show in North America occurs in Chicago in mid-February. The Chicago Auto Show began in 1901 and has been displaying the latest car models annually ever since. Displays, exhibits and automobiles stretch over 1.3 million square feet. Displays include 1,000 different models of cars, trucks and SUVs. Car manufacturers introduce new models including cars of the future. In addition to new vehicles, the show features antique and collector car exhibits. As of 2011, tickets are $11 for adults, $7 for seniors and children. Some discounts are available.
Michigan
Held in Detroit in mid January, the North American International Auto Show features cars from manufacturers around the world. Some of these manufacturers use this auto sdebut new models. In addition to viewing the latest car models, attendees can visit the "Smarter Living in Michigan" exhibit. This exhibit highlights Michigan companies working on sustainable technology. It also features an indoor car track to test drive hybrid and electric vehicles. As of 2011, tickets for adults cost $12 per person. Children and seniors cost $6 per person. E-tickets and day passes are available.
Wisconsin
Sponsored by Motor Trend, The Greater Milwaukee Auto Show occurs at the end of February. This show displays hundreds of different car models that include luxury cars, hybrids and the latest models of trucks and cars. Car manufacturer representatives are available to discuss their models in depth. The show also has a museum and used car showcase. As of 2011, adult tickets cost $10 per person. Seniors and students cost $7 and children cost $5.
Minnesota
Minnesota holds the Minnesota Auto Show in March. In addition to viewing the latest car models, visitors can see three different types of auto garages, a special room for environmentally sound vehicles and a display of very expensive luxury cars. Famous cars from movies and television are also available, and guests may photograph them. As of 2011, tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Ohio
The Cleveland Auto Show takes place the first week of March. The show features the latest car models and classic cars. It also holds informational seminars about automobile safety and design. As of 2011, adult tickets cost $12. Children and seniors cost $10.
New York
The New York International Auto Show takes place at the end of April. The show displays the new models of cars for the current year and upcoming year. Displays and exhibits spread over four levels of the Jacob Javits Center. Classic and antique cars appear in an exhibit presented by the LeMay Museum. Visitors can eat at a cafeteria on level one or at the many snack stands available. As of 2011, tickets cost $14 for adults and $4 for children.
Indiana
The AutoRama visits Indianapolis in February. This show features custom cars on display. Visitors can enter their own custom car, truck or bike in a variety of contests. The show is especially for people who own or work on custom cars. Over 50 percent of the visitors own or restore this type of car. This show also travels to Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, St. Paul, MN, Milwaukee, WI, Indianapolis, IN and Pittsburgh, PA.
Pennsylvania
Motor Trend sponsors the Pennsylvania Auto Show in Harrisburg, PA during the last week of January. Guests may take a test drive in a vehicle model and even meet Sponge Bob Square Pants while they see the latest models of cars and trucks. As of 2011, adult tickets cost $8. Seniors and students cost $5 and children cost $3.
